Principal owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates
Nutting became the 6th principal owner in Pirates history on January 12, 2007. He has served as Chairman of the Board and represented his family’s interest in the club since 2003.
In September 2007 he hired Frank Coonelly as the new president of the ballclub who, in turn, hired Neal Huntington as the team's general manager.
Nutting’s family roots in the greater Pittsburgh region date back as long as the Pirates 122-year history. Under his leadership, the Pirates have made a commitment to making an even deeper positive impact in the community. In 2008, the Pirates and its philanthropic arm, Pirates Charities, assisted more than 2,200 community organizations. Pirates Charities also launched three major initiatives, including the renovation of the little league complex in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, the launch of the new Fields for Kids matching grant program, as well as the building of the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field, which brought a completely new dynamic to the Pittsburgh community by creating a space dedicated to the needs of children with disabilities when the field was completed in the Pittsburgh suburb of Cranberry Township for the 2009 season.
