Robert S. "Steve" Miller was hired as Delphi chairman by General Motors and Delphi Corporation to file bankruptcy. Known as a restructuring expert, [1] [2] he was hired to slash costs and close unprofitable operations. Miller, who was hired in July 2005 filed bankruptcy Saturday, October 8, 2005. [3] It was the largest auto industry bankruptcy filing to that date. It was filed with Judge Arthur Gonzalez of New York. Delphi Corp. has 50,000 employees in the US and 185,000 worldwide.
Miller had previously been chairman of the auto supplier Federal-Mogul, where managed a similar bankruptcy reorganization. [1]
