robing room

US Supreme Court: Robing Room

An oak‐paneled room located on the main floor of the Supreme Court building next to the Conference Room. It contains nine adjacent closets that hold the judicial robes of the justices. Each closet door has a brass nameplate for its justice. The closets are arranged in order of the justices' seniority. The room's dark maroon carpeting bears a design of laurel wreaths and five‐pointed stars. Here, the justices come before sessions to robe. The room also holds a copying machine and a desk for the Court's messenger.
