Career

Club

Placentino, who is of Italian descent, previously played in Italy for lower league sides Foggia, Avellino, Teramo, Cavese, Gualdo, Massese and Gubbio. He has only played 1 match at Italy's second level, Serie B with Avellino.

Placentino signed for his hometown team, Montreal Impact, on May 22, 2008, having originally left the team for Italy six years previously.[1]During the 2009 USL season Placentino contributed by helping the Impact clinch a playoff spot under new head coach Marc Dos Santos. He recorded his first playoff goal in the quarterfinal match against Charleston Battery. The match resulted in 2-1 victory for the Impact, and allowing the Impact to advance to the finals by winning their second match on aggregate[2]. Montreal would advance on to the finals where their opponents would end up being the Vancouver Whitecaps, thus marking the first time in USL history where the final match would consist of two Canadian clubs. In the final Placentino helped the Impact win the series 6-3 on aggregate. The victory gave the Impact their third USL Championship and also the victory marked his first USL Championship. On November 26, 2009 Placentino re-signed with the Impact to a new two-year deal with the club[3].

International

Placentino has been part of the Canadian national team setup since the late 1990s, has played for the Canada U-20 and Canada U-23 teams, and was part of the Canadian squad for the 2004 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament. He made his first and only appearance for the Canada national football team on September 3, 2005, in a 2-1 friendly win over Spain.
