Review

The sixth installment in Sandstone Music's Rock the First series is a brief sampler of some of the bigger hits of the '80s. Musically, it is split between lite new wave with the Fixx's "One Thing Leads to Another" and ABC's "The Look of Love, Pt. 1," pop/rock with Men at Work's "Down Under," Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love," and the Bangles' "Hazy Shade of Winter," as well as Bobby McFerrin's timelessly annoying "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and Tone-Loc's timelessly great "Wild Thing." The short running time makes it a less than essential purchase, but it might be enough for the casual fan of the decade who just wants a sliver of what made the decade what it was. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
