Review

Rockin' the Joint is a reissue of the 1990 Capitol Collectors Series anthology with a new name and different cover, but otherwise the two are the same. Since many of the discs in the Capitol Collectors Series have been deleted, Collectables has given a few of them facelifts and another crack at the marketplace. Esquerita, the R&B pianist who profoundly influenced Little Richard, is at the top of his game on these recordings from the late '50s. He somehow managed to convince the Jordanaires to drop by the studio and lay down some vocal tracks on their way to the funeral of Elvis Presley's mother, and they appear on "I Live the Life I Love" and "This Thing Called Love." The 28 tracks on this collection constitute Esquerita's complete Capitol recordings, and they are a vital addition to the collection of any enthusiast of '50s rock & roll or R&B. ~ Greg Adams, Rovi
