The Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) is in Lakewood, a suburb of Denver, Colorado, USA. The college was founded in 1963 by Philip J. Steele, an artist and teacher.
RMCAD is a four-year, fully accredited college, with majors in Game Art, Communications Design, Animation, Interior Design, Illustration, Art Education, and Fine Arts, with concentrations in Photography + Video Art, Sculpture, and Painting. RMCAD's Interior Design department includes a Green Design area of emphasis, the first accredited program of its kind.
RMCAD's campus contains eighteen historical buildings built in a variety of 20th-century architectural styles. The campus is the former site of the Jewish Consumptives' Relief Society (JCRS), included in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Jefferson County, Colorado.
Special learning facilities include a woodshop, ceramics studio, photography lab, professional sound studio, 283-seat auditorium, 35-seat audiovisual theater, large meeting rooms, and a Library/Resource Center.
Art Education is led by Lisa Hochtritt, who joined the RMCAD faculty from The School of Art Institute of Chicago.
Fine Arts is led by Chair Rebecca Vaughan, Clark Richert (painting), and Gary Emrich (photography).
Fred Murrell leads the Communications Design department.
Sam Flemming and Sean Burns are Co-Chairs of both the Game Art and Animation departments, Larry Kresek drives the Illustration department, and Lauren Pillote is in charge of RMCAD's progressive Interior Design department.
