After making his professional debuts in his homeland in 2003, with Sociedade Esportiva e Recreativa Caxias do Sul, Alvim went on to represent Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense and Paraná Clube. In July 2006, he moved to Portugal's C.F. Os Belenenses.
After two impressive top division seasons with the Lisbon club, Alvim signed a three-year contract with Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg, in late July 2008. He was crowned league champion in his first season, but appeared only twice.
On 25 January 2010, Alvim's contract with Wolfsburg was terminated and, in the following day, he returned to his home country, signing for defending champions Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.[1]
