Readers' Digest's Signature Series: Romantic Strings collects 14 evocative, string-driven instrumentals, including "Theme from "A Summer Place," "Somewhere, My Love (Lara's Theme from "Doctor Zhivago")," and Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1. Tracks such as "Theme from "Romeo and Juliet" (A Time for Us)" and "Yesterday" have a somewhat dated sound, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on whether or not you have a taste for '60s and '70s era easy listening. "Scarborough Fair," "If I Were a Carpenter," and "Shadow of Your Smile (Love Theme from "The Sandpiper")" are some of the other highlights from this collection, which offers pleasant, if somewhat kitschy, mood music. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
