Modern dance work in one act with choreography by Sokolow and music by K. Hopkins. Premiered 24 Feb. 1955 at the YM-YWHA, New York, with Seckler, E. Beck, and McKayle. Sokolow's classic study of alienation is divided into nine sections which deal with a group of city dwellers, each locked in their own neurosis, and expressing their frustrations and fantasies in angularly expressive gesture. It has been revived for several companies, including Netherlands Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and the Joffrey Ballet.
