Rosalind Plowright

(b Worksop, 21 May 1949). English soprano. She studied in Manchester and at the London Opera Centre and made her London stage début with the ENO in The Turn of the Screw, (1979), appearing at Covent Garden the next year. She has sung Aida and Donna Anna at Covent Garden, and has appeared at the Vienna Staatsoper, the Paris Opéra, La Scala and widely in the USA. Her powerful, gleaming, tautly-focussed voice and dramatic vitality serve particularly well in such roles as Verdi's Desdemona.
