Plot

This 28-minute short subject was filmed during the September 12, 1933 world welterweight championship match between Barney Ross and Tony Canzoneri. The original bout, held at New York's Polo Grounds, lasted 15 rounds, or 45 minutes. The film version distills the action to the highlights only, with time left over for a few slow-mo sequences. Barney Ross, incidentally, later served as the subject of the 1957 biopic Monkey on My Back, which concentrated on Ross' descent into, and escape from, drug addiction. The Ross-Canzoneri Fight was distributed by Mrs. William Randolph Hearst (who was not Marion Davies!) ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
