Career

Loan move to Dumbarton

Forbes was loaned out to Dumbarton and was a key man in helping the club win the Scottish Football League Third Division championship. He scored his only goal in a 2–0 win for the sons against Berwick.

Motherwell

Forbes made his first-team debut for Motherwell in the Europa League first qualifying round match against Llanelli on 2 July 2009, a match in which they lost 1–0 in Jim Gannon's first match in charge. He scored 2 goals in the return leg of their second qualifying round match against KS Flamurtari Vlorë which Motherwell won 8–1 (8–2 on aggregate) and another in the next qualifying round home match against Steaua Bucharest. He carried his good form into the league campaign, scoring 5 times in the opening 10 games, and was rewarded by being named SPL Young Player of the Month for August.[1]

During the next two seasons, Forbes would not be as influential, only making a handful more appearances, mainly as a substitute. On 10 May 2012, after making 54 appearances for Motherwell, it was confirmed that Forbes, out of contract in the summer, would be released by the club.[2]

International career

In recognition of his good form at the start of the 2009–10 season, Forbes was called into the Scotland under–21s squad to play Belarus u-21s in October 9. He subsequently retained his place in the squad, but is yet to make his debut.
