Rotherick O'Connor King of Connaught, or The Distressed Princess (1719), a history play by Charles Shadwell. Performed at Smock Alley Theatre, it narrates the events of the Norman invasion of Ireland, presenting Rory O'Connor, last High King of Ireland (d. 1198), and ‘Catholicus’, Archbishop of Tuam, as malignant tyrants. Ireland is delivered by Strongbow.
