The Royal Lao Government in Exile (RLGE) is a Lao government in exile opposed to the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Its self-proclaimed goal is to institute a democracy in Laos that ensures freedom, justice, peace, and prosperity for all Lao people. It is chaired by His Excellency Khamphoui Sisavatdy, who previously served in the former Laos royal government under King Savang Vatthanaas Congressman and was a Professor of Lao History at Sisavangvong University. In 1972, he traveled to the United States with a Lao delegation to speak to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger concerning a series of proposed Geneva Convention treaties.

The royal Lao government was revived followed alleged violations of the Geneva Accords of 1954 and 1962, U.S. Congress Resolutions 240, 169, 309, and 318 and a European Parliamentary resolution on Laos in February 15, 2002.[by whom?] The Royal Lao Government in Exile is an interim government consisting of eighty representatives from Lao political organizations and associations.

Currently the only royal family member of Laos that is a member is General Prince Mounivong Kindavong.

The request to execute an immediate withdrawal of Communist Vietnamese troops from Laos is in disposition, and thus has required ensurement that United Nations peace-keeping troops are needed in order to ensure safe path of transitions.{{clarification needed|date=May 2012]]

The Royal Lao Government in Exile has about 900 anti-Communist fighters populating the border region of Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia.
