Formerly Covent garden Opera, established in London in 1945 as the British national company, it was renamed in 1968. Works are performed, usually in their original language, with international soloists. Music directors have included Karl Rankl (1945-51), Kubelík, Solti, Colin Davis and Haitink (from 1987).
