The Defence College of Intelligence Royal School of Military Survey (DCI RSMS) is a joint services training facility associated with the Corps of Royal Engineers (RE) but attached to the United Kingdom Defence Intelligence and Security Centre (DISC). The school is divided into five wings specialising in: geodesy and navigation, imagery, geospatial information management, geospatial information exploitation, and map design and production.

Courses

Courses taught at RSMS range in duration from three days to 14 months. The primary activity of RSMS is the training of RE geographic technicians and surveyor engineers. Many additional courses are offered attracting students from throughout the defence geospatial community including members of UK and foreign uniformed and civilian services.

The premier course offered by RSMS is the 14 month Army Survey Course (ASC). The ASC is a demanding program focusing on the various fields pertaining to geospatial information and its application within the defence community. Successful completion of the ASC results in the conferment of an MSc in Defence Geographic Information from Cranfield University. In this relationship RSMS is responsible for course content, while Cranfield University is involved with oversight and program accreditation. Cranfield University and RSMS faculty meet regularly to ensure that each student is attaining the high standards required for graduation. Fully successful students graduate from Cranfield University, Defence College of Management and Technology, from 2009 known as Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) based at Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, during the July following the course. Starting in 2009, several changes to the course will be made and the MSc conferred will be in Geospatial Intelligence. This is in keeping with the evolution of defence survey and will be very little more than a name change.

Additional courses which result in conferment of a certification or Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) are offered in conjunction with Sheffield Hallam University.

The school is based at Denison Barracks in Hermitage, Royal County of Berkshire.
