Rudolf von Tavel

Tavel, Rudolf von (Berne, 1866-1934, Berne), of a family prominent in Berne for many generations, was a newspaper and periodical editor and the author of fiction written in Bernese dialect and dealing with the Bernese past, its people, and its customs. His collections of stories include Ja gäll, so geit's (1903) and Geschichten aus dem Berner Land (1934), and his stories D'Frou Kätheli und ihri Buebe (1910), D'Haselmuus (1922), and Unspunne (1924); his novels are Veterane-Zyt (1927), Der Frondeur (1929), and Meischter und Ritter (1933). Special mention should be made of his comedy Di gfreutischti Frou (1923). Gedanken. Aus Werk und Werkstatt des Erzählers (1937) is a posthumous publication.
