Game Description

Sports fans looking for hard-hitting action without the pads and helmets can rejoin the scrum in Rugby 06. Players will lead their favorite rugby team through such league tournaments as the 6 Nations, Lions Tour, Tri Nations, Guinness Premiership, and the Super 14. Improving the game’s flow has been an area of focus for the development team, as players are now able to perform offload passes, quick line-outs, quick penalties, and set the fly-half in motion, all designed to keep the action moving at a heightened pace. Rugby fans can mix up the offense with "impact players," stars that can either make or break a game with their distinct abilities, or by assigning a choice of more than 25 set plays to their controller for smoother transitions. The career-like World League mode offers yearly objectives to complete while dealing with injuries, team morale, salary management, and trades. Successful managers may also receive potentially lucrative offers from rival teams, but those who fail to meet their goals run the risk of being fired. The action takes place within revamped international venues that include Twickenham, Lansdowne Road, Murrayfield, and the Millennium Stadium, each home to team-specific flags, rolling banners, and variable weather like snow and fog. Ian Robertson returns as lead commentator and is joined in the broadcasting booth by former player Grant Fox for all-new analysis.

Features

This game has quite a few new features. Some of the features are for graphical purposes (eg new weather effects), and others are purely for gameplay purposes (eg new tackle options and off-load passing options). Some of the features are listed below, with a brief explanation:

Playable modes

6 Nations, Tri-Nations (with the Bledisloe Cup), Ten Nations, Lions Tour (SA, NZ, Australia), Super 14, Guinness Premiership, World League, World Championship, European Trophy

Increased tactical plays

25+ new tactical plays can be chosen. If the player chooses wisely, he can gain the upper hand.

Off-load passing

When the player draws a defender to him, he is able to quickly off-load the ball to a teammate, before the defender actually tackles him. This can cause a gap in the defensive line, which can be exploited by the player to the players advantage.

Comprehensive commentary

Ian Robertson returns for this game, next to former All Black great Grant Fox, as well as comments from Murray Mexted.

Impact Players

Impact/Star players, are players in the game that could potentially turn a match in the player's favour. These player are the best in-game in their specialised area. Impact players are highlighted in game with a star above their heads. These include:

 England

 Australia

 New Zealand

 South Africa

 Argentina

Ireland

 France

 Wales

Enhanced players and stadium conditions

The game features new stadium animations, such as banner rotations, 3D-grass, and team relevant flags. Also the weather conditions are improved, and new conditions are added. The player can now play in snow and fog, and even see the players breath.

Quick penalties

The game also includes the option of taking a quick penalty, this can help to score a sneaky try or just to gain some metres. Although you could just take the yards to clear the lines
