Hallensleben, Ruth (1898-1977), German photographer. In 1930 she apprenticed herself as a landscape and portrait photographer in Elspeth Gropp's studio in Cologne. In 1934 she started her own studio there, moving to nearby Wiehl in 1943. From 1961 to 1973 she worked in Wuppertal. In addition to landscape and architectural photography, and reportage, it was her industrial work which became best known, especially after her death. Over c.40 years she created sober documentary images of people and objects in the most varied branches of industrial production, mostly in the Ruhr.
