Ruth M.J.Byrne (1962 - ) FTCD, MRIA, was born in Dublin, Ireland. She is a cognitive scientist and author of several books on human reasoning, including Deduction (1991, co-author Philip Johnson-Laird, Erlbaum), Human Reasoning (1993, with Jonathan Evans & Stephen Newstead, Erlbaum), The Rational Imagination: How People Create Alternatives to Reality (2005, MIT Press).

She is currently Professor of Cognitive Science, in the Institute of Neuroscience & School of Psychology, Trinity College Dublin, University of Dublin. She is a former Vice Provost of Trinity College Dublin.
