Ryan Palmer (born 1974) is a chess player of Jamaican origin; he was the Jamaican National Champion in 1992 [1]. During the academic years of 2004-2007, he taught mathematics at Adams' Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire, and now has moved to the United States, to pursue further studies. He runs various chess schools for youngsters during school holidays, and campaigns to increase numbers of young chess players. He is well known for his slogan "Chess is cool". When he arrived at the school he set up many chess and maths clubs for the pupils. He became very popular and helped many in their studies and with chess. He has trained many young chess champions including Tom Pym. [2]
