Saguia el Hamra

[ʹsägēə el ʹ(h)ämrə]

Intermittent river in the N of the Western Sahara. It flows into the Atlantic W of La'youn. The name is also used for the region through which it flows. A territory of Spain from 1934, it united with Río de Oro in 1958 to become a part of Spanish Sahara.
