saccharin

Food and Fitness: saccharin

An artificial sweetener about 300 times as sweet as sucrose but with no calories. Large doses of saccharin cause bladder cancer in laboratory animals, but there is no certain proof that it is carcinogenic in humans. In the USA, foods containing saccharin carry warning labels. Pregnant and lactating women, and children are advised not to use it.
