Safety Margin

Excess of actual sales over break-even sales. For example, if the break-even point is 3,000 units and actual sales volume is 3,400 units, a safety margin of 400 units exists. Thus, sales can decrease by 400 units before the company would incur a loss. See also Break-Even Point.
