Saint Barbe

Celtic Mythology: Saint Barbe

Legendary Breton saint who appears to be derived from a pre-Christian fire-goddess. She is the protectress of those who seek her aid in sudden death, especially from lightning, and a patroness of firemen. Although not on the Church's calendar of saints, she has been venerated at La Faouet on the last Sunday of June. Compare BRIGIT; BRIGID, SAINT.
