Saint Cynan Meiriadog


Cynan Meriadoc, Saint, Cynan Meriadach, Saint

Legendary 5th-century holy man who led Welsh migrants to Armorica, founding Brittany. In the Welsh story Breuddwyd Macsen Wledig [The Dream of Macsen Wledig], Cynan is a British general who leads his armies to Rome and is rewarded with the rights to Armorica/Brittany. In Breton legends he is known as Conan or Konan Meriedek.
