American actor Sam Melville is best known for his television work on such series as The Rookies (he played Officer Mike Danko), The Scarecrow and Mrs. King (as Mr. King), and Gunsmoke as a regular guest star. Samuel Gardner Melville (August 20, 1936 – March 9, 1989) was an American actor. He is noted for his myriad of guest roles on many popular shows of the 1960s and 1970s, and is best known for his roles of Officer Mike Danko in four seasons of Aaron Spelling's The Rookies and of Bear in the classic surfing movie, Big Wednesday. He had a small part in Hour of the Gun playing the role of Morgan Earp. On Gunsmoke and Hawaii Five-O he played villains as a guest-star.

He also played a villain on Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and later played Mrs. King's ex-husband and father of her children.

Samuel Gardner Melville was born in Fillmore, Utah. He died from heart failure in Los Angeles, California.
