Biography
Early life
Armytage grew up in Adaminaby in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales. She studied journalism at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. As a student, she was a broadcaster with the on-campus community radio station 2MCE-FM.
Career
She began her career at WIN Television in Canberra in 1999, as a news reporter and presenter in Canberra.[1] Following this she joined Sky News in 2002 and was chief political reporter.
In April 2003 she joined Seven. In December 2004, she landed her first major presenting role, filling-in as anchor on the Sydney 6pm weeknight news over the Summer non-ratings period. Following the non-ratings period she had stints presenting the national Morning News bulletin, the national late news updates, and filling in as presenter of Sydney's local news bulletin.
In 2005 and 2006, Armytage was the regular Friday presenter on Sydney's edition of Seven News. When Ian Ross went on holidays in late June to early July 2006, Armytage presented the weekend edition of Seven News. This was also the case over summer 2006.
Armytage replaced Mike Amor as host of Seven's 4.30 News. Amor had replaced Rebecca Maddern as presenter when the network moved production from Melbourne to Sydney, but ratings fell with that change. She presents the 4.30pm news Monday-Thursday, Chris Bath presenting it on Friday.
In June 2007, she became co-host of Weekend Sunrise alongside Andrew O'Keefe, replacing Lisa Wilkinson who moved to the Nine Network.[2]
As well as filing reports out in the field,[3] Armytage also presents the Seven Late News Update on Wednesday and Thursday and fills in on Today Tonight East Coast and is a fill-in presenter for Kylie Gillies on The Morning Show.
Personal life
Armytage is an ambassador for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.[4]. Her interests include golf, tennis, snow skiing, horse racing and greyhound racing.[5]
