A May 20, 2011 Gallup Poll found that 53% of Americans favor same sex marriage. Public opinion is evolving quite rapidly and people are finding it more and more difficult to support legal discrimination against gay couples.

No federal laws prohibit same-sex marriage in the United States of America, Canada, or other countries where same-sex marriage is legal.

As of 2017, Peru does not have same-sex marriage. When it does, it will be recognized by the United States as well.
