Samppa Hirvonen is a former bassist of Finnish band Nightwish. He performed at live shows early in the bands career, prior to the arrival of permanent member Sami Vänskä. He would have become the permanent bassist and male vocals for the band, but he joined the army as part of Finnish army conscription just as Nightwish began recording for Oceanborn.
