Santa Maria del Tule is a town in Oaxaca. It is located 10 kilometers (6 miles) SE of Oaxaca City and is easily reached by car, bus, and bike. It is most famous for an enormous tree, Árbol del Tule that is in the town. The town takes its name from the Montezuma Cypress located in the town.
The church of Santa Maria del Tule stands in the town centre. It was built in stone over an ancient pagan shrine, and is surrounded by other buildings and areas belonging to the parish. A large walled plaza spreads in front of the church.
