Santana do Livramento is a city in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Santana do Livramento is located along the border with the city of Rivera, Uruguay, which helps form an international city of 200,000 inhabitants. Santana do Livramento is located in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is situated in a latitude 30º53'27" south and a longitude 55º31'58" west, with 208 meters high, and is 498 km distance from its capital city (Porto Alegre). The population in 2005 was 97.488 inhabitants in an area of 6.950,37 km². Santana do Livramento was founded on 30 of July of 1823, and in 1857 was emancipated from Alegrete as a city. The economy is mainly: Farming, Cattle, Leather Goods and Viniculture Commerce. The city also crosses the 31st parallel, making ideal for wine production. Thee two main wineries are Almaden and Santa Colina.

There are many tourists that come to Livramento to shop in the duty free-shops from its neighboring city Rivera.

The rural tourism is also an attractive in te city.

Language: Portuguese and the dialect Portunhol (mixture of Spanish and Portuguese).

The border community is unusual as inhabitants from both Livramento (Brazil) and Rivera (Uruguay) are free to move anywhere throughout the twin city community.
