Biography

Satellite Party emerged out of former Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros frontman Perry Farrell's personal belief that individuals can change the world one step at a time. In keeping with the global and spiritual awareness found on his 2001 solo album, Song Yet to Be Sung, this recording endeavor was his way of lending a hand through music. With such lofty ambitions, Farrell would need help, and thus recruited guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt (most notably from Extreme), drummer Kevin Figueiredo, bassist Carl Restivo, and his wife and backing vocalist, Etty Lau Farrell. Together, they brought to life an indulgent mix of rock, electronic, urban, and symphonic elements that at times resembled a sort of Peter Gabriel-meets-worldbeat sound; it told the story of The Solutionists, "a collaborative brain trust of artists, musicians, and environmentalists" who sought to find solutions for the world's problems. Satellite Party's conceptual debut further enlisted the assistance of various guests -- including Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros), Flea and John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Hybrid, Thievery Corporation, Black Eyed Peas' Fergie, and film composer Harry Gregson-Williams -- not to mention contained a song ("Woman in the Window") that used a previously unreleased Jim Morrison vocal track. After three years of work, the band made its live debut in early 2007 at the winter X-Games, a performance that preceded the May release of Ultra Payloaded through Columbia Records. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide

Satellite Party is an alternative rock band conceived by current Jane's Addiction and former Porno for Pyros frontman Perry Farrell following the demise of Jane's Addiction in 2004. Other members currently include Carl Restivo (bass) and Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell (backing singer and dancer). The band was initially formed as a collaboration between Farrell and Extreme member Nuno Bettencourt, however Bettencourt departed from from the project in July 2007. Perry Farrell now remains the only permanent member.

History

The group made its debut appearance in Los Angeles at the Key Club on July 18, 2005. Tony Kanal of No Doubt filled in on bass and Steve Ferlazzo of DramaGods was on keyboards. This was followed by an additional performance at Lollapalooza 2005, held in Grant Park in downtown Chicago on July 24, 2005.[1][2] [1].

The band's debut album, Ultra Payloaded, was released on May 29, 2007, with contributions from artists such as John Frusciante and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, electronic dance pioneers Hybrid and Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook.[3] The group has been signed with Columbia Records, which is a part of Sony Records[4], since June 6, 2006.

The album includes a "lost song" titled "Woman in the Window" with vocals by the late Doors frontman Jim Morrison. The album itself was preceded by the single, 'Wish Upon a Dog Star,' under the collaboration with Hybrid's lead track off their I Choose Noise LP, "Dogstar."

In late July 2007, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt left the band, stating, "I have always felt uncomfortable with the direction of the lineup and live show. I truly do believe in the songs and music on the album, and I wish Perry Farrell and any musician that remains on tour all the best.” Drummer Kevin Figueiredo also left, for unexplained reasons. [2]Silvertide guitarist, Nick Perri, and drummer, Jordan Plonsky, joined the band for the remainder of the tour.

The band has since parted ways with Columbia Records.

Satellite Party have recently been working on new material. However, current contributing guitarist(s) and drummer(s) are unclear.
