Biography

Formed in 2004 by vocalist Jared Weeks and guitarist Jason Null, Saving Abel combine riff-heavy hard rock with sexually charged lyrics and Southern rock influences. The quintet took root in Corinth, MS, where Weeks and Null cut their teeth in different bands before merging their songwriting talents. In early 2005, the duo's music attracted attention from producer Skidd Mills, who invited Weeks and Null to record in his Memphis studio. Juggling day jobs and regional gigs, the two began driving back and forth between Corinth and Memphis, sporadically recording their self-titled EP with Mills while assembling a full lineup comprised of guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor, and drummer Blake Dixon. Within a year, the EP had earned Saving Abel a contract with Virgin Records, and Mills returned to helm their full-length debut. Combining new material with the EP's best songs, the self-titled album was issued in March 2008. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

Saving Abel is an American rock band from Corinth, Mississippi, formed in 2004. Founded by members by Jared Weeks and Jason Null in 2004. The band's name references the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Band member Jason Null came up with the name saying “I Googled the story of Cain and Abel and found a line about ‘there was no saving Abel,’ which just jumped out at me.”[1]

History

Jared Weeks and Jason Null formed the band in their small hometown of Corinth, Mississippi in 2004. Weeks was playing guitar at his best friend’s house, when Null, who was in a rival local group, walked in to rehearse with his band. Within days of that meeting, Null and Weeks were writing songs for the future Saving Abel band. In early 2005, the pair’s songs caught the ear of noted producer Skidd Mills (ZZ Top, Saliva, and Robert Cray), who took the band into his 747 Studios in Memphis.[original research?]

Saving Abel gradually came together with guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor, and drummer Blake Dixon. Weeks would toss Saving Abel demos onto the stage whenever bigger bands played in town. Weeks remembers: "I used to work at a hospital. I’d have to be there at 4:30 in the morning drawing blood. I’d wake people up and stick a needle in their arm. I’d be walking around the hospital, singing ‘Addicted’ in my head, writing down the lyrics on patients’ clipboards and doctor script pads."[citation needed]

In 2006, Saving Abel released an album under their own label. After shopping their album for almost a year, a copy of "Addicted" found its way to former Virgin A&R Consultant, Scott Frazier partner, Rick Smith. They were so excited that they sent the song to company CEO Jason Flom. Flom heard enough to send A&R vet Kim Stephens (Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Edwin McCain) to see the band in Jackson, Tennessee.[2] Saving Abel released their self-titled, major label debut album on March 11, 2008. The album features the single "Addicted" which peaked at #2 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart. As of February 2009 Saving Abel's self-titled album has sold over 382,443 copies. On the week of January 15 their album peaked at #49 on the Billboard 200.[3]. The album was certified gold in the week of March 16, 2009, on the strength of their top twenty song, "Addicted", which was written about an ex-girlfriend.[4]

The band is set to begin a tour with Nickelback in early 2009. They will continue to tour with Nickelback during the Dark Horse Tour through Live Nation outdoor amphitheaters summer 2009 with Hinder, Papa Roach, and Nickelback.

In April 2009 the band stated in an interview with Shave Magazine that, despite the allegations, the band has no problem with Hinder and they are looking forward to hanging out with them.[4]

On April 7, 2009, Saving Abel released an EP named 18 Days Tour. The EP contains an acoustic version of the song "18 days" and two unreleased songs.[5]

Saving Abel will headline a tour through out United States with Red, Pop Evil and Taddy Porter in Support.[6] Saving Abel have been playing new songs on their current tour. Some of the new songs are titled "Hell Of A Ride", "Tap Out", "Tooth and Nail" and "Bloody Sunday". It is also been stated that the band is almost finished with their second record and plans to return to the studio in January to record the last few tracks.[7]
