Review

Savoir-Faire compiles ten dated French songs from the '70s, most of which are jazz, samba, or some sort of other African-rooted style. DJ Spider and Philgood compile the songs and attempt to explain their often mysterious origins in the liner notes. Some of the featured artists compiled here include East African Cosmos, Cortex, Synthesis, Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango, Yves Hayat, Bernard Lubat & His Mad Ducks, Jean-Claude Pelletier et Son Orchestre, God Child, and Eden Rose. Though none of these artists are particularly well known -- neither then nor now -- their music is often quite amazing. Overall, Savoir-Faire is somewhat of a novelty, compiling forgotten gems from yesteryear. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
