Biography

Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis is a professional choral group in Hungary led by musicologist and singer János Mezei. His day job is in fostering children through choral singing at two of Budapest's major high schools; in the evening, he fulfills professional engagements. As a full force, Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis consists of both adults and children and it is constantly in demand as one of the top choruses in Hungary. A unique circumstance accorded to Schola Cantorum Budapestiensis was in 1996 when it recorded the Bartók Cantata Profana under the baton of Georg Solti, which, as fate would have it, turned out to be maestro Solti's last recording. ~ Uncle Dave Lewis, All Music Guide
