School of the Woods is an independent primary and secondary school located at 1321 Wirt Road in Hilshire Village, Texas, United States. While its got a Houston address, the school is in the city limits of Hilshire Village.

School of the Woods is a Nursery through 12th grade Montessori school with Day Care.

Students from other private schools, such as Annunciation Orthodox School [2], sometimes matriculate to School of the Woods.

The School of the Woods sports program features basketball, golf, volleyball, swim, and many more. The school's sports name is "Wildcats".

History

School of the Woods was founded by Dr. Ernest Wood and opened in 1962 [3]. The school was originally located on the Unitarian Fellowship Campus which occupied the 1321 Wirt Road address in the city of Hilshire Village. In 1975 the school acquired the property at 1321 Wirt Road.

A middle school with 7th and 8th grades was added in 1984. In the Fall of 1999 a high school was added with the first freshman class which later became the first graduating class in the Fall of 2003.

Sherry Herron has been Head of the School since 1977.
