Veterinary Dictionary: Schoupe speculum

Used in equine dentistry to keep the mouth open. Consists of a long metal rod with a cross handle. The other end returns on itself and has at its end a coiled springlike structure which is placed between the molars on the side opposite to where work is to be done.
