Schramberg is a town in the district of Rottweil, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated in the eastern Black Forest, 18 km northwest of Rottweil. With all its districts Talstadt, Sulgen, Waldmössingen, Heiligenbronn, Schönbronn and Tennenbronn (since 2006) it has about 22,000 inhabitants.

The small river Schiltach flows through the town, and is famous as the course over which tub-rafting takes place during the carnival season in February or March.[2]

Railways

Schramberg was the end terminus of the Schiltach-Schramberg railway, which was formerly a critical railway line for freight traffic. The line existed from 1982–1990.

History

The origines of Schramberg date back to year 1293, when the locality was first described as "Schrammenberg" ("wounded" or "scarfed hill"). From 1643 Schramberg was part and center of the Herrschaft Schramberg, belonging to Further Austria until 1805. From 1805 Schramberg was part of the Kingdom of Württemberg.

Education

Schramberg has a prominent high school, the so called Gymnasium Schramberg, which is one of the greatest and most prominent schools in the Black Forest.

Some internationally recognised firms founded in the 19th century have their headquarters in Schramberg. These include the precision springs and plastics company HAAS [1] and the watch manufacturer Junghans. Also the worlds leading manufacturer of conductor boards, Schweizer Electronic [2], has its Head Office in Schramberg.
