Schwaben

 

Schwaben (Swabia), historical duchy and now a common regional designation for south-west Germany (Baden-Württemberg). The original duchy also included Alsace and German-speaking Switzerland. The last duke of Swabia, Johannes Parricida, who appears as a character in Schiller's Wilhelmx Tell, died in 1313.
