Schwarzrotgold

Schwarzrotgold denotes the black, red, and yellow flag of the German Federal Republic (see Bundesrepublik Deutschland). These colours formed also the basic flag of the DDR (see Deutsche Demokratische Republik). The ‘black-red-gold’ combination originated as the colours of the Lützowsches Freikorps in 1813 and were then adopted by the Burschenschaft in 1815. From 1919 to 1933 the black, red, and yellow flag was the national flag of Germany and was readopted for West and East Germany in 1948. (See also Schwarzweissrot.)
