A technique used to diagnose sports injuries. A radioactive tracer is used in conjunction with a scintillation counter to produce pictures. A diagram, called a scintigram, shows the internal distribution of a radioactive tracer in internal parts of the body. In sports medicine, scintigraphy is particularly useful in the detection of stress fractures in bones. See also bone scan.
