Review

Most of the tenor-saxophonists do not actually scream on this LP but there are plenty of honks, squeals and roars during a variety of early R&Bish performances. Such colorful players as Joe Houston, Charlie Singleton, Joe Thomas (one of his songs is called "Tearing Hair"), Morris Lane, Paul Bascomb, Bumps Myers and baritonist Leo Parker are heard at their most exuberant. Accessible and frequently exciting music. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
