Works: Works by Scribner's Monthly

1870Scribner's Monthly. Founded by Charles Scribner (1821-1871), the literary journal serialized novels such as Harte's Gabriel Conroy and Cable's The Grandissimes, short stories by Julian Hawthorne and Helen Hunt Jackson, essays by W. C. Brownell and John Muir, and poetry by Emma Lazarus and Sidney Lanier until 1881. It then continued as the Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine (1881-1930).
