Sean-bhean Bhocht

Celtic Mythology: Sean-bhean Bhocht

[Irish, poor old woman]

Irish spelling of Shan Van Vocht, a personification of Ireland current in the 18th century, apparently derived from Cailleach Bhéire. Under this spelling the phrase was also a pseudonym of Irish patriot Roger Casement (1864–1916).
