The 13 songs of Steve Ferentzy's debut solo album, Secrets and Lies manage to cover a lot of territory within the country genre. The album hits the ground running with the opening track, which is a fun, bluesy dance song titled "Love Talkin'." "Turn Around," shows more of an Appalachian influence but keeps the tempo up, while "What Are You Tryin' to Prove," journeys into the realm of the soulful ballad. Overall, the quality of the music is top-notch, with slightly less impressive lyrics and arrangements that could, at times benefit from a little paring down, especially on "Sleep Tight," where the simple sweetness of the up-tempo ballad is drowned in excessive harmonies and background vocals. Ferentzy's arrangement crimes pale against much greater ones committed by the big Nashville releases, however, and this is a nice debut effort. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide
