In east-central FL, north of Orlando; organized Apr 25, 1913 from Orange County. Name Origin: For the Muskhogean tribe who lived in FL until the end of the Seminole War (1835-42). Remnants of the tribe moved into the Everglades and their descendants are still there. The name may be from Creek ishti semoli 'wild men' or 'separate ones.'
