Seanchán Toirpéist
Connacht poet (c.570–617) reputed to have saved the Táin Bó Cuailnge [Cattle Raid of Cooley] from oblivion. According to a widely known story, he was trying vainly to piece together the narrative when Fergus mac Róich appeared to him in a vision and recited the entire poem. Less fabulous narratives assert that he was the leader of the great bardic assembly and chief of the poets of Ireland after Dallán Forgaill (c.540–96).
