Biography

Bergen County, NJ's Senses Fail consisted of vocalist James "Buddy" Nielsen, guitarists Dave Miller and Garrett Zablocki, bassist Michael Glita (ex-Tokyo Rose), and drummer Dan Trapp. Forming in 2002, SF developed a slick amalgam of post-hardcore chuggery and emo heartbreak that was solidly in line with the sound of other New Jersey groups like Saves the Day. Senses Fail quickly issued a debut EP through Boston indie ECA and began to play out frequently while spreading the word with a thriving Internet presence. Drive-Thru Records took notice and signed the group in late 2002. A revamped version of the From the Depths of Dreams EP appeared in April 2003; it featured better mixing, one new song, and an acoustic version of "Ground Folds." A tour with the Used wrapped up the year in a successful fashion. After more heavy touring and a bit of label drama, 2004's Let It Enfold You, named after a Charles Bukowski poem, was released that September through Vagrant/Drive-Thru; a deluxe edition with bonus tracks was issued a year later. The band also contributed a cover of Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized" for 2005's Tony Hawk's American Wasteland video game soundtrack. Relentless touring persisted before the guys began work on their sophomore effort. Senses Fail hit the studio in May 2006 with producer Brian McTernan (Thrice, Cave In) and new guitarist Heath Saraceno (the former Midtown member wound up permanently replacing Miller, who'd previously left the group). A main-stage spot at that summer's Warped Tour and the fall U.K. installment of Taste of Chaos preceded the October release of the explosive Still Searching, which they immediately supported on headlining dates with Saosin and Bleeding Through in tow. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Senses Fail is a Ridgewood, New Jersey based band that draws heavily from the punk, emo,[1] screamo,[2] and hardcore genres. Their main influences are Jimmy Eat World, Fairweather, Grade, The Promise Ring, Jawbreaker, Saves the Day,[2] Thursday, and The Get Up Kids.

History

The history of Senses Fail starts with Buddy Nielsen, in 2002 recruiting members through an advertisement on the Internet a year before the formation of the band. The current drummer, Dan Trapp, read the article and brought friends Dave Miller and Garrett Zablocki from two bands he had played with previously. Later, the bass player Mike Glita, former drummer for Tokyo Rose joined the lineup[3].

Their first release, on August 16 2002, was a six-track EP on ECA Records, From the Depths of Dreams. This was re-released on April 29 2003, on Drive-Thru Records, with two extra tracks. Their first full-length album, Let It Enfold You, was released on September 7, 2004 on Vagrant Records. It was also re-released, with five bonus tracks: three acoustic versions of songs on Let It Enfold You, a new track named American Death and a cover of the song Institutionalized, which was originally by Suicidal Tendencies.

In 2005, the band's web site announced the departure, by mutual agreement, of guitarist Dave Miller. He was replaced by Heath Saraceno, previously the guitarist/vocalist of the band Midtown. Subsequent interviews with band members have made it clear that Miller did not leave voluntarily.

The band has played on the Warped Tour in 2004-06 and the International Taste of Chaos tour in 2006. In November 2006-February 2007, they did a headlining tour with such bands as Saosin, Alexisonfire and The Sleeping, and then completed the North American version of the Taste of Chaos Tour that featured such bands as The Used, 30 Seconds to Mars, Saosin, Chiodos, Aiden, and Evaline. They performed in a number of European festivals (as well as a couple of headlining shows) in April 2007, and played a short U.S. tour (including part of the Zumiez Couch Tour) with From Autumn to Ashes in June.

On July 18th 2007 Senses Fail announced via MySpace that they would be writing songs again over the summer. A deluxe version of Still Searching is due to be released on November 13, with new art, behind-the-scenes dvd featuring footage from the band's headlining tour last fall, four additional previously digital-only songs (Stretch Your Legs To Coffin Length, Cinco De Mayo are two of them), and two new songs 'Battel Hymn' and 'Champagne'[4].

On October 5, 2007, Senses Fail began a tour starting in Las Vegas, Nevada. They will be Co-Headlining the tour with New Found Glory. Also in the tour is Set Your Goals. They will be going to 33 cities. The tour ends on November 24, 2007 in San Diego, California.
